Colnago Master

Colnago Master Più – Edwig Van Hooydonck – 1991

One of the most successful models from the storied cycling brand Colnago is undoubtedly the Master. Since its introduction in 1983, the Master played a pivotal role in professional cycling for many years, contributing to the victories of great champions such as Giuseppe Saronni, Erik Breukink, Eric Vanderaerden, Maurizio Fondriest, Pavel Tonkov, Johan Museeuw, and many more. The defining feature of the Colnago Master was its distinctive frame, built from the famous hexagonal Columbus tubes by Gilco Design, which made the bicycle both lighter and more resilient.

The model shown here is a Colnago Master Più that belonged to former Belgian professional cyclist Edwig "Eddy Bosberg" Van Hooydonck, who rode in 1991 for the Dutch team Buckler – Colnago – Decca under Jan Raas. This bike has been beautifully restored thanks to Van Hooydonck's original frame. The frame size clearly confirms that this bicycle belonged to Edwig Van Hooydonck, who stood 1.90 m tall — at the time, all bikes were custom-built to each rider's individual measurements. The bike already features the Precisa suspension fork introduced by Colnago in 1989, and has been fully rebuilt with all original components, most notably the stunning Suntour Superbe Pro groupset.
